Students of Dadu to Benefit from United States-Funded State-of-the-Art School.
Dadu (September 30, 2019) – United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Acting Director for Sindh and Balochistan Mark Sorensen and Program Director SBEP Mushtaque Ahmed Soomro today inaugurated a recently completed school for the local community at Mondar, Dadu. Over 800 local students will benefit every year from the modern classrooms, computer and science labs, health room, and library at the new school constructed with support of USAID.
“The partnership between the U.S. Government and Sindh is showing great results through improved quality of education in public schools in the province,” Mark Sorensen said. “The Sindh Basic Education Program (SBEP) is helping to improve the quality of teaching and increase access to safe learning opportunities for children, especially for girls through engagement with the private sector.”
Program Director SBEP expressed his appreciation for the U.S. Government’s strong support in modernizing education in Sindh through the province’s strong ongoing partnership with USAID. Senior Government officials from Education department of Sindh also participated in the ceremony along with community elders, teachers, students, and parents.
This new school was constructed with the support of USAID’s 25 billion Rupee ($159.2 million) SBEP, in close partnership with the Government of Sindh. The U.S. Government is supporting construction of 112 modern school buildings in nine districts of Northern Sindh and five towns of Karachi. Construction of 68 schools has already been completed, while 44 are under various stages of construction. In addition to constructing schools, SBEP aims to increase and sustain student enrollment in primary, middle, and secondary public schools in select areas of Sindh. SBEP also supports the government’s reforms in education, community mobilization, public-private partnerships, and improving reading competencies of students.
